The Rock 'n' Roll San Diego marathon starts in Balboa Park and tours San Diego's diverse neighborhoods before the pivotal Highway 163 climb at mile 22. The half marathon shares the opening miles with a separate route to the downtown finish. Both distances finish in the Gaslamp Quarter area.
